I’m Kathy Carr, and I’m running for County Commissioner to restore trust, civility, and transparency to the Washington County Commission.

About Kathy

I bring over 30 years of experience as a teacher and school principal, during which I learned to listen, solve problems, and bring people together. I managed budgets, led diverse teams, and made decisions with students, families, and staff in mind. This experience has given me the fundamentals of public governance and management across a wide range of stakeholders. Since moving to Washington County, I have remained engaged by attending the Commission’s meetings and those of related Boards and Committees. I understand how local decisions affect daily life. I am approachable, prepared, and committed to representing my district with respect, transparency, and steady leadership that puts people first.

Kathy’s Priorities

Trust
Civility
Transparency

My priorities are to restore trust, civility, and transparency on the County Commission.

Our County needs to rebuild trust, strengthen communication, and ensure decisions reflect the people it serves. Residents want a clear voice in issues that affect their neighborhoods, especially for growth, land use, and community impact. I opposed the BWXT rezoning and vocally defended our residents’ position. It is also important that County entities work more effectively together, including the Commission, schools, and libraries, so that services are consistent and effective. I will focus on respectful leadership, open dialogue, and practical solutions that improve coordination and transparency, and serve the long-term interests of our county.
